I've been here twice: once for my company's benefit party and for a big Xmas Eve party for the Jewish kids that have no place else to go. The night of the benefit, it was great. Nice atmosphere and we were covered. Plus, we knew most of the people there and it was a fairly classy event. When I went back and it was a legit club again... no, not my scene. I don't go clubbing often - I'm more of a bar girl - but the lights were out of control. I'm seizing just thinking about it. It was really awful and I needed to step out for a break to make sure my brain would still function. The DJ was pretty ADD, too, and wouldn't make it through a full song. That bugs me. Every song, no matter what, had the most intense techno beat beneath it. I was physically uncomfortable. Oh, and $10 for a vodka mixer? Sorry, never again. I can get a beer at Fenway for cheaper than that and I didn't think anything could top the absurdity of ball park prices. (Not to mention, far more worth it.) It unfortunate because the space is really nice, at least for the number of people that were there. I'm not sure how much busier it gets on an average weekend night. However, there are better options for a Saturday night... take them.

This is a must-see spot for anyone who can even begin to appreciate poetry. I went not knowing what to expect, and left in awe and shock over the amazing things I saw there that night. It was definitely intense, and I loved the vibe as well as the diverse people there. The regulars were amazing people, and everyone was so supportive of all the readers. The best part, I feel, was the ability to keep a great sense of humor amid all of the intensity. I laughed, I cried... and it was MUCH better than a romantic comedy. The ONLY downside was cash-only at the bar, but it's possible that it was only for the event I was at. I'd check it out before you get there with only $5 on you.
