Da 'Nord and I have had a long complicated relationship so I can't really fault them for the few nights where I just have a terrible time there... it's mostly due to the bridge n' bart trash coming in for a show or somethin' So TEN REASONS WHY I LOVE DU NORD 1. y'all let me into 21+ shows back when i was a kid with a dream and an ID that said my name was Maria Contreras Cuevas. 2. Splits of decent champagne for a reasonable price 3. Stage area is pretty intimate and cozy. I'm not sure if they're doing that whole Du Nord Swedish Hall bullshit upstairs but the orginal is much better. 4. but if you're not feeling the band there's a room on the other side to enjoy your drink/play a game of pool 5. amber, lucky 13, and lots of gay barz are all really close (along wth the L Owl) 6. After closing time once, I dropped my bff off at safeway, came back and hooked up with the keyboardist in the band we just saw in my car. after we were done i went back and picked up my friend from safeway and drove home. This happened 7 years ago and she still brings it up when she needs some leverage. 7. The bathrooms are reasonable. 8. I was here last week for some after party from the moma and there was a 20 dollar cover! My friend tracked down some bartender and we walked in for free only to see an obese lesbian orgy on the couch. I immediately tracked down Squarebear (he was already inside cuz he's not too cheap to pay $20 for some lame party i guess). He was not amused. 9. You can always talk your way in! The bouncers are super nice deep down inside. 10. I'm always down to support local music and such.

As a bar, it's just ok, though the faux-saloon vibe is a nice contrast in style to the slicker nightclubs in the same building (Prague, The Marq, and The Lanai). But Shiner's shines (heh) when it comes to late-night bar food that you would be embarassed to admit eating were it not for the "I'm drunk" defense.

Erika F. is completely correct in every way. This restaurant only wins for decor, and that's it. Analogy: This place is to as a real Chinese restarant as McDonald's is to a real back-yard barbecued burger. Only I would actually frequent McDonald's and would not return to Golden Temple. -SB & LK
