by Alex M. on Call it what you like, the Top of the Standard is as legit as it gets. I'm not an avid rateclubser in terms of writing reviews, but after visiting the lounge last weekend I had to opine. Came here with a few friends after a drinky brunch at bagatelle and fortunately we had no issues with the notoriously difficult door. The space itself is extremely classic and elegant with fantastic views of the Manhattan and NJ skylines. Drinks were generally excellent but expensive (ie over $20) and the seating is super cozy. Our group had a great time bouncing between the couches and the bar but the lounge itself would be a perfect place to grab drinks with someone special you're trying to impress. Definitely worth checking out, just be careful because the 000's at the end of your bill add up quickly...
by Emily X. on I was confused. Am I at the old 520 Mason? Is that place even still around? Wait, did that place even exist?? Was that what it was called if it did exist? I can't remember now. Out on the town with my European friends (yeah, they're hotter than me, but I usually get to the reap the benefits of their hotness, so its OK) we somehow were delivered here by Lincoln Town Car (how did that happen?). I remember there being retna scanning and fingerprint identification involved with getting into 520; not so here at Insomnia. It might have something to do with the fact that we had two hot blond Euro babes with us, but we were promptly whisked right in. So once again, I was confused cuz this place looks EXACTLY like 520 Mason, just slightly smaller. But I didn't come here at 3:00 in the morning to critique the design elements of this back alley establishment. I was drunk and wanted to dance. And drink some more. And dance. And that's what was provided for me by the fine people here at Insomnia. Plus, if you're jonesing to make out with a hot European guy your chances are really good here. I was totally out of my element here, and I got some booty. And so can you!
