This was place was ridiculously crowded when we came there at midnight. A good sign you would think. Then I swear I heard a 12:30am last call. I know this is San Francisco and everything closes at 1:30am, but come on! Really? Hopefully I was wrong. I didn't even try to push through the crowd and make it the bar before they stopped serving. Instead I decided to take advantage of the itsy bitsy dance floor and the entertainment, meaning the Asian guy go-go dancing in the corner. Wow that guy can move it! After being on the dance floor for about an hour I had enough of feeling like I was in middle school...the 90s music and creepy guys standing behind you and drilling holes into the back of your head. Bye bye Vertigo.

As a bar, it's just ok, though the faux-saloon vibe is a nice contrast in style to the slicker nightclubs in the same building (Prague, The Marq, and The Lanai). But Shiner's shines (heh) when it comes to late-night bar food that you would be embarassed to admit eating were it not for the "I'm drunk" defense.

This place is really, really easy to forget. The only thing it has going for it is that it has a pretty choice jukebox. Well, I'm partial to jukeboxes with Dinosaur Jr. on them. But, in other news, I've recently heard that this place has opened themselves up to having live local and national acts on the second floor courtesy of r5. I think the only reason that Sean wants to have shows there is so that the cash cow keeps getting bigger and he doesn't know where else to stick those bands that the local "tastemakers" haven't read about yet. But no, I'm not bitter...
