by JulieJuli A. on Julie Yes shocking ain't it to give the Iron Chef 3 Stars. It was the whole experience that got ruined in the middle to the end... Here's my story... Everything started off nicely and the restaurant is lovely. Guys will be an instant hit if you bring your dates here... But be careful cause it'll cost ya. I went with the Omakase of course... had to give the chef's menu a run at my palate... Here is the 7 course Omakase run down: 1) Yellowtail tartar was a good beginning. It was incredibly tasty but latter part not as good as it's presented in a small bowl and soaked with soy type sauce that made the 2nd half way too salty. 2) Suzuki. Striped bass carpaccio . Light seared. Warm oil. This was excellent and one of the highlights. Very fresh and a nice touch on warm oil. 3) Skipjack Tuna Sashimi salad. OMGGGGG wait for it.... Legend- DAIRYYYYYY... Velvety smooth melts in ur mouth Tuna. Now I'm no sushi expert. But I've tried lots and even did the whole Tokyo fish market at 5 am deal. And this was arguably the best sushi I've ever had. I can't describe it but to say that I took my time a savored every bite of the 3 pieces that i received. 6 STAR experience... over the top goodness. Honey rose soda to cleanse the palate and off to hot dishes. 4) Steamed halibut with black bean sauce was good but I felt like i was in Chinatown where I could get a whole fish in black bean sauce. I guess i would expect a unique experience here, rather than something I cud get elsewhere. 5) Roasted quail. Not a fan of quail as I maybe had it one other time. So i was surprised that this was served. It came spread eagle and was not a sight I wanted to see. But I'm doing omakase at Morimoto so i had to attempt to eat it. You can say it's duck flavored chicken in miso sauce. But biting the little legs and breast just was a killjoy for this meal. A definite thumbs down for me. 6) Sushi sampler - 5 pieces which i think were Tuna, Butterfish, octopus, Snapper, and Yellowtail. I don't recall the taste of each piece because quite frankly, it was not memorable and typical sushi i could get at any local sushi bar. 7) Tea soaked cake with white mousse. A nice finish. Just a bit sweet but very enjoyable end to the meal. The wait staff and servers were good but i had a waiter that was really borderline annoying... Heck , he was annoying. Even though a server came and delivered the course and described it elegantly to us. The waiter would pop in as we are taking our first bite to describe it again and say "oh, what a wonderful looking dish" I really didn't need to make convo with the guy. He was really too in your face and abrupt and didn't allow me to nicely flow into my courses and enjoy the meal. Overall, I still enjoyed the experience but maybe I should've coughed up for the $150 Omakase... Nah... not worth it.. Next time I'll just order the skipjack tuna.
by Teresa N. on Saw Rosie Thomas here last night. Great acoustics for small shows. Intimate, great lighting, friendly crowd. Lots of seating upstairs on the balcony and downstairs on the floor. Guess it just depends what type of view you want. The Great American Music Hall has to be one of my favorite venues in San Francisco. Plenty of street parking. Try to park on the side streets off O'Farrell or Van Ness. If you're afraid that your car might get broken into, you can always park at AMC1000 and get your ticket validated inside the theatre.
