Remember Ritual? That small, crowded Asian nightclub next to the CVS with the long lines that one can only quickly bypass if you know one of the club promoters working the door? That nightclub still exists but is now disguised under a different name-- Halo. Came here this past Sat (08-29) on their tropical-themed night titled "Get Lei'd" (get the most leis by the end of the night and get a goose bottle free) and my experience was less than favorable. After parking valet at the CVS next door (valet is $10, self-park is $15--yes, valet is cheaper), my friends and I waited in their usual long line that never moves which eventually caused us to miss our free guestlist entrance (boo).  I was damn determined to get into the club for free since we drove 28 miles to get here, the car was already parked and paid for, AND we got to the club with plenty of time to spare. With a lot of luck and determination, I was able to convince a VERY AWESOME promoter (thanks Watkins!!) into letting the girls in my group go in for free (woot!), but the boys still had to pay the $20 cover (sorry fellas). The club was less crowded than usual so there was actually room for moving around the club and dancing and flagging down a bartender for drinks was easy. The DJ was bad--some bad song choices and bad transitions between songs. More creepy boys than usual (one guy kept trying to dance all up on us for probably a half hour even after one of my guy friends REPEATEDLY tried to chase him away by dancing all up on him... talk about persistence!) Alcohol prices are your standard Hollywood club prices. Beers are $7 and drinks are $10-15. Supposedly they had $5 tropical themed drinks that night to which I was unaware of (damn, wish I had known!). Halo still serves their well-known and very lethal Galvatron drink (a mixed drink that consists of 1 shot 151, 1 shot patron, and 1 shot maker's mark).  Speaking from experience, you'll want to throw up after downing this bad boy. There is a $20 minimum if you want to buy drinks on card, so I'd suggest bringing cash for drinks unless you plan to keep an open bar tab. Halo's not a TERRIBLE nightclub, but there are plenty of better Saturday nightclubs out there in Hollywood that I'd rather go to.

I may be wrong but a lot of people probably consider this place as a club. In my opinion, I believe it to be more of a lounge that has cover charge. The place is small, consists of two rooms: a smoking area and the dance floor. They have two bars with about 2 bartenders per bar. The bartenders are pretty swift and do their job well. Drink prices here are typical Hollywood, $10+ each drink. The dancefloor is small. There is also table service here but I don't see too much people utlizing that. Maybe it's the economy or people just believe it's not worth buying a table here..? The other night when I was in the restroom, I saw the funniest thing. Some big Russian looking dude was washing his hands and decided to use some of the bathroom attendant's items such as the listerine. The guy then wiped his hands and was headed out the door. The attendant stopped the guy and was like, "If you use or take the items, you have to tip." I think the guy didn't give a crap and took off. I was washing my hands next to them and then I see the attendant take off out the door. I later saw the bathroom guy all up in the dude's face. Pretty entertaining. Have some courtesy and common sense, if you use the guy's stuff or take his candy. Give him a buck, it goes a long way. If the bathroom guy is overly pushy and all you are trying to do is wash your hands after you grab your schlong, then screw him. Mood isn't a bad spot. It's a nice chilled out joint where people come to mingle and socialize. Like I said earlier, I don't think it's a full blown club but more like a social lounge. $20 cover is a bit steep here for what you're paying here. I think when Mood started out, it was one of those Hollywood "A" list joints but now that so much time has past, it is no longer that type of establishment.

Went here for my company's holiday staff party last night. We had the ballroom from 6-9 p.m. and then some, and it was an interesting space. The food wasn't that great -- not sure if it was catered by someone outside or by the hall -- and consisted primarily of pasta salad and cold cuts. The bartenders I interacted with were all quite nice, and the staff -- including the DJ -- seemed to enjoy hanging out with the people at the party while they were working. The 7&7 I had was fine, and they had Sapporo in bottles. A fun space. Be sure to give the dude in the bathroom a dollar for working the sink for you. Also, coat check is apparently mandatory, and if you lose your ticket, you need to stick around until 4 a.m., so don't lose your ticket!
