by Ann Marie A. on There I am, on Saturday night, standing in the middle of Vertigo..seeing all the happiness around me. I stand there waiting for a text or a call or an appearance of familiar faces at the door...and...nothing. So my disappointment must've been apparent because this guy approaches me and asks me why I'm so sad. I explain that I think my friends are flaking on me, and he says, "F*** 'em. Have fun without 'em!" I stand there for 30 seconds to process that thought and realize that I SHOULD "F*** 'em" AND get me a Cantaloupe Martini. On the way to the bar, a girl bumps into me and partakes in the infamous etiquette that Vertigo is so well known for..."I'm sorry!" I get to the bar and the bartender makes me the drink, spills a little of it while placing a napkin under it, says she's sorry and told me that she would make a little more to fill it to the rim. She did this EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE A MILLION PEOPLE AT THE BAR WAITING TO BE SERVED. Okay - I'm exaggerating a little...but there were a helluva lot of people! That was really nice of her to do! On the way to the floor, I once again get the polite "I'm sorrys" from passing people. Is this place for real?! Some guy asks me to dance, and I agree just so I can get out of my self-pity and join the happiness on the dance floor. A few minutes into it, this girl is asking her friends if they want to go up on the benches. They hesitate, so I go, "I'll go with you!" She then takes me by the hand and leads me up to the benches. I proceed to dance to my favorite top 40 hits, sing along with everyone to Journey songs and meet a bunch of new people ALL FREAKIN' NIGHT LONG! I've never had SOOOO much fun with a bunch of strangers!!! Everyone here is so awesome! I love this place, and my flaky friends really did miss out! Thank you to D.J. for his wise words, to Eugenia for bringing me up to the benches, Eric for playing air guitar with me, Matthew for getting me a bottle of water and being my Journey sing-a-long buddy, some Asian guy for offering me his shirt to wipe away the sweat (the place was hot, but everyone was too busy having fun to notice), and of course, Yeronica, for dancing with me and also humping my leg. There were so many other people I met, but didn't get all their names. Everyone there...the door guy, the owners, the patrons, the bartenders...everyone was so awesome. Wow! I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU, Vertigo Bar!!! If I could, I would marry you, but instead, I'll just give you all the stars Rateclub will let me give you, and tell all my non-flaky friends to get their butts in your awesome bar pronto!!!
