I feel like a grumpy old man for giving this bar only 3 stars but I have a serious problem with the floor plan which really limits movement and unintentionally corrals patrons into sections of the bar. The bar that's immediately adjacent to the staircase feels like a poor use space and could have been better served as a lounge. An architect should have really addressed the issue with the, dare I say "balcony". It's still cramped and not very accessible. Ventilation is a bit poor so combined that with the increase body heat and it becomes very stuffy. Believe it or not I actually had a pretty decent time at this place and would probably go back.

All show...no go! Gorgeous building, tastefully decorated and refreshingly large for San Francisco, but too bad the food wasn't likewise. The portions are pea-sized and I've been to Japan, the portions are not that even small. We all had to pull out a magnifying glass to see what we were eating! Our waitress was inattentive and left several really awkward moments...The best service was from the guy who handled the tea and water, he was great. I will however give this place another chance since we only had dinner and didn't attend a Jazz show. I'm beginning to wonder, maybe the good reviews are from those who were watching the Jazz set and it distracted them from the minuscule portions.
