I'm from New York and was visiting Philly for Labor Day weekend with some friends, and this is where we decided to go first based off reviews from other faithful rateclubsers. The space itself is awesome--it looks like an old church with the pews removed or an old renovated barn. The drinks are delicious (seriously, the strawberry beer I had tasted like strawberry jelly and I finished it in about 2 minutes), but a little pricey. The only thing I didn't really like about National Mechanics was that we felt a little out of place. It felt like all the "cool kids" hung out here--the hipster kids, if you will. Other than that (and the slightly overpriced drinks), it was a great experience and I hope to go back the next time I'm in Philly.

Went to a mash-up derby event for my friend's birthday here over the weekend. Anyone who knows me knows I hate clubbing. It's (typically) sweaty, loud, and crowded - just not my thing. Despite having drinks spilled all over my sandals because our group was standing right in the line of fire near the bar, the experience was actually pretty decent. There was a live band, an interesting mix of music, it wasn't grossly hot or crowded, the club goers were a diverse group, and it's easily accessible by car and bus. I got a laugh when I realized the stamp on my wrist read "lesbian money."
