So I was here on a Sunday for reggae night. And as my first time here, the bouncer was kind enough to give me & my friend a free pass to go in (thank god!). We are in there for no more than 2 minutes when I turn over to my friend and she is being drenched in cheesy compliments by this guy who obviously is there to do nothing but that. Ugh, I hate that my first review has to be a negative one but c'mon, seriously ?! The music was not bad at all. The crowd was definitely not my cup of tea. The venue had a nice feel to it. But maybe not on this night next time.

I'm a fan of gin, and a fan of violet. Having a violet cocktail set my little heart aflutter. Even though we showed up on a Saturday night with a group of 7 or 8 without a reservation, we got seated right away and had fairly prompt service. The atmosphere is beautiful and the cheese plate was interesting. I had the shrimp with coconut grits and I swear I could have ordered about three of those dishes and eaten them all they were so delicious. (And I don't mean that as in the portions were small, either. They weren't.) I know this place prides itself on sourcing local ingredients and you could really tell they took care with the menu. I wasn't super hungry when I went- and that was my mistake- because I would have liked to have tried more things.

I have been here 2 times.  The first time was in 2005 after they had just finished remodeling the upstairs part of the restaurant.  It was very nice and you could sit at a table overlooking the streets.  We weren't required to pay for a show or a two drink minimum.  The menu upstairs was more extensive then the one downstairs.  I remember eating the best crab cakes ever -- lots of crab.  The biscuits were an assortment that had these amazing corn fritters or something like that.  The service was very different upstairs then downstairs.  The next time I came, less than a year later, I was told the upstairs was closed because the were remodeling.  How strange -- how many establishments finish one remodel to begin remodeling it all over again...maybe a management/owner problem. Instead, we ate downstairs and paid for a show.  The music was good and we quickly found out by loyal fans that we were there to watch a show and should not do any talking...as we were shushed quite rudely.  As you read in previous reviews, the sound system is quite good -- I don't think we were talking too loud, but obviously it was loud enough to annoy some loyal fans. I remember I ate the Peppered Briskett of Beef...it was so amazing!  I can say though that each time I have been here the experience is inconsistent and so is the food.  The first time I was here the biscuits were amazing, light and melted in your mouth, the second time they were dry, hard, and atleast a day old.  The first time the crab cakes were amazing, the second time my friends ordered them and said they were good (but, they weren't raving and they all wanted to taste my briskett saying that that's what they should have ordered).  Yes, you may end up with buyer's remorse. In the dungeon, my experience has been tolerable.  Unless you have a big party you get to sit at little tables that are crammed together on the floor (you definitely need reservations).  The bathroom became backed up while we were at the restaurant -- during a show.  The service is very slow -- waitress' are always promising to come by in just a second and never do.  If they come to take your order you had better be ready or it may be 30-45 min before you get a chance to order again.  Your waitress already takes awhile to get your order to the kitchen...so you might want to bring some snacks for the hungry men to munch on to get them through the waiting -- the few biscuits you get will not be enough and you may not catch your waitress for a second round of biscuits. Don't have high expectations when you come here, don't expect to talk much when the show starts, and don't expect good service and you should walk away satisfied.
