by Ezekiel Hemeon on This year, my friends & I decided to throw our birthday party at Carnival. However, we did bowling at Bowlmor first, and took the party on up, so we didn't have to climb any of those stairs that people here are talking about, aside from the 1 flight of stairs from the bowling alley floor up to Carnival. Because we had a long wait for our bowling lanes (1.5 hours), we were able to get the bowling desk to provide my party with wristbands entitling us to free entry to Carnival. Those wristbands saved came in handy since we told out guests Carnival would be a $5 cover. That night they decided to up the cover to $10, but they did include entry+coat check+5 game booth tickets, so it was actually a good deal. Carnival was very fun, but make sure you have lots of money on hand if you really want to have fun without going broke. It's a cute place for a date when it's too cold to go to a real carnival. Special drinks were about $14. I had the blue cotton candy whatever it's called, which was yummy & my glass was even topped with a fluff of cotton candy. The games were cute, and I loved the decor! I loved that there were different areas to hang out in, and tons of activities for people like me who get bored at lounges quickly. Also great places to take pictures ;) I wouldn't mind going again, but it is pricey.
by Kenneth Oberdorf on Nuyorican offers quality poetry slams! The only reason for a four and not five-star rating was the lack of seats for everyone they allow in... lots of people had to stand or sit on random objects (like we did with one of the speakers!). Remember to get there early to stand in line or you may not even get in... also, the closer you are to the front of the line, the more likely you will get a seat... which for such a long show, you will want!
by Gracie B. on I've tried to be one of those cool people who go to bars by themselves. And this looked like a great place to do that. But I've tried. Twice. To go in here, and I can't. The first time I got in the door. I went to the first floor bar and hung out for a couple minutes. After getting absolutely no acknowledgement from the 3 bartenders, I considered going upstairs or up to the roof. But I couldn't figure out what to do. So I left. The second time was this weekend. I drove by, considered going in, and kept driving. Everyuone just looked so shiny and glamourous and fake. I'm disappointed. I was hoping for an SF replacement for Local 16 in DC ( http://www.rateclubs.com/bi...), but no.
