by Jessica B. on Get to Middlesex at 10pm on Tuesday. Wait in line for one hour. Get in finally to find that the place is not, in fact, packed. Rush to get a drink (it's 11pm already, gotta hurry!) Look around: no one is dancing because they haven't been drinking because they have been standing outside for an hour waiting to come in to drink to dance. By midnight things have picked up. At 12:30, after dancing for only about an hour, try to be clever and pay your tab before the end of night rush. Because things officially end at 1. (Dear Boston/Cambridge, what is up with that? Even Pittsburgh lets you drink til 2 and hang out til 3.) Wait another 30 minutes to pay. Enjoy the dynamic of the guy bartender who steadfastly refuses to look at anyone. Overall: spend about 2 hours waiting for things and 1 hour dancing. I like Hearthrob, and I generally like the bartenders at Middlesex, who, at the beginning of the night (and by beginning I mean 11pm) are prompt with my vodkas. But the waiting is kiiling me. So, go, but bring cash and get there early. Really really early. Really.
