Oh RISE, you saved my Saturday night! I'm going to try to pack as much as I can into this review to give people the best idea of what RISE is. As a Boston native, but frequent NYC nightclubber, I would say that RISE is the closest thing to a NYC club as you can get in Boston -- that I've experienced thus far. When I finally turned 21 and became eligible to enter Boston's strict night scene, my friends and I decided to do a bit of club hopping. Our first stop was Club Cafe (a letdown) to pregame, then House of Blues, which was better but that's not saying much. We wanted to DANCE! After some hesitation, we finally decided to go to RISE. Now I understand that RISE is possibly Boston's ONLY after hours club, which automatically gives it one star. I mean, who goes to bed at 2 am on a Saturday night?! Anyways, our initial hesitation came from the fact that RISE's website states that one needs to buy a club membership or know a member to get in. We called and asked if this was legitimate and they told us to come anyways, as we would most likely be let in. There was no line when we arrived, but we still had to pay $20. I know most clubs in Boston have a cover, but this one was well worth it. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that RISE was more compact than I thought it was going to be -- it kind of added to it's exclusiveness in a weird way. It has two floors: upstairs has hardcore trance music and the lower floor is more mellow, but still has dance music. Whoever was spinning that night on the top floor did a damn good job because we were literally dancing until 6 am. Pounding strobe lights, hazy fog, and beaming colors make the whole experience define the word "trippy." The crowd consisted of more guys than girls (it was Saturday), but everyone was good-looking. I'm also happy to find out that this club is gay-friendly. Cons: You cannot drink inside, so make sure you get your drink on before coming. Although it's a young crowd, there are still some old creepers in there so beware. And note to RISE: get rid of the soda machines, they're very tacky! For NYC nightclubbers: To put it simply, RISE is the Pacha of Boston, yet A LOT classier and smaller. Go in expecting that you're going to have some ecstasy fans, loud dance music, and the guidos-- so don't complain. When I went there was very few of these, but then again it wasn't as packed as it usually is. Actually, when I went we had the opposite crowd as people were dressed in very trendy clothes. So I guess, in terms of the crowd, it could be a tossup. However, what's still left unanswered is this whole membership deal. Is it just on dead nights when they let non-members come in? Is the whole membership thing a scam? Not sure. I hear Friday nights are packed, so I'll check it out and update. Overall, if you're looking to dance to some legitimate hardcore beats, meet some hotties, and just let it all go, check out RISE. If you want to go to a place and hear old hits or an ipod on shuffle, DON'T check out RISE. My new Boston plan? Pregame somewhere and go to RISE to dance the night away. End of story.

I'm no jazz aficionado, so take what you will of my review. This place is a sweet jazz club. Went for dinner and a set. Its a smaller venue, creating an intimate and enjoyable atmosphere. We ordered dinner as well, all of which was delicious. We ordered dessert so we could sneak in a few minutes of the jam session, which featured a woman vocalist who was pretty smooth. This would make a great date place.

I have to honest, I've never been there for salsa day/night. I go primarily for the Stompy parties. I can pretty much assume that on any Monday holiday, that Sunday night will go off. You must must have a few prerequisites: -be hungover from night two of a 3 day weekend. -Love electronic music -Be ready to run into a bunch of fools that you recognize but don't really know. -You might see a random Burner there rocking out some playa inspired outfit. -Love canned beers Plus they usually have a good food scene:)
