by Jimmy Mascarenas on I normally don't like places this small. I love to get my groove on and the mini dance floor at this "lounge" is TINY. That being said, I kinda like G&D! The decor is cool, I love how the side walls are full mirrors. They have a bunch of interesting cocktails on the wall by the bar so check those out before you order your usual... I've only been here on Saturdays but I've had a great time both times. The first time I went with 3 sexy chicas and we ended up hanging out with the Colorado Avalanche. Why hello!! I'm not trying to brag but I LOVE hockey players, so partying with a f***ing NHL team was like seeing my fantasy come to life. If my fantasies were G-rated... In this case we all parted ways at the end of the evening because hockey players are dirty mofos, especially NHLers. Anyway, back to what matters. It is kinda tough to get in, but I'm not that suave so I just expect that from LA wanne-be hot spots now. Since it's hella small, it's packed by 1130pm. I think we waited like 15 minutes to get in. I can deal with that. The second night I went the EC twins were DJing and it was wild. (That fourth star is for the EC twins because everyone went nuts for their set, they did an encore, yadda yadda ) I think what I love the most about G&D is getting up on the table ledges along the wall and letting my inner stripper get loose. Not everybody's into dancing on tables and all that, maybe I'm attention starved. Memo to dudes w/ tables: I'm not gonna use you for your overpriced booze, but I WILL use you for your prime dancing space! If you can't cozy up to some boys with a table here, there's really not a lot of room to do anything (i.e. dance, hunt for men, etc.) So that could hurt the fun factor. Last tidbit: Jerry's Deli is right next door and open late if you're looking to end the night with a drunk calorie fest!
by Bertha Lepley on So this is the new second best restaurant in SF? 10/10/09 Rateclub lists it right after Gary Danko. Let's try it. The restaurant was out of 30% of their 10 entree menu (scallops, lamb, halibut). Plus the sweet potato fries. Plus the wine that we wanted. Not so good. The food was good in parts, partially mediocre. Brussel sprouts were hard as rock. We had to ask for napkins & silverware, I guess they forgot...same with the side-dishes. I think Gordon Ramsay would be yelling. Guys, you really need to practise this restaurant thing!
by Rada I. on I think this place is a gem. It's absolutely sexy. Although, I've never been outside of an organized event, so I'm not sure what the crowd is like on a regular day. However, I would imagine it would be a wonderful place for a date. SO much bubbly, the dim lighting, and the downstairs looks and feels like a cave. I wish my house looked like the bubble lounge... but then again, I would never leave... champagne, velvet, candles, cave, mirrors... the only thing missing, the phantom. Oh, Rada, shut up.
