Rather feels like a house party at a high rise bachelor's pad in Manhattan's lower eastside. Except for the renovations and the new furnishings, there isn't much drastic redesign to speak of. They've kept the general layout left over from the Garden of Eden days along with the numerous stairwells found throughout the property. A bit dangerous if you ask me.

The Oilcan's review...for a week I've pondered what I should say about the presumed epicenter of gay life in Austin. So after some soul-searching (remembering my most embarrassing moments there), procrastinating (going to my day job), and extensive on-the-ground research (getting hammered on the OCH patio), I believe I'm thoroughly prepared. If I could sum up OCH in one word, it would be "versatile". I'll wait just a moment for the giggles to subside. Versatile in this sense means that everytime I have found myself drinking, dancing, or socializing at OCH, it has always been a completely different experience. What I've done Friday at midnight varies wildly with my experiences Sunday after church. Each experience has occurred in a charmingly unique vacuum of fabulousness. The first time I saw the facade of OCH I was on my way to Boyz Cellar to get serenaded by a sarcastic drag queen before my overseas trip to study abroad the next day. In all honesty, the name made me squirm but it also might have been that I was a poorly hidden closet case who was nervous about gay bars in general. It has been a wild ride ever since I stepped in and thank God I did. The staff is the highlight. They are all VERY friendly, hilarious, and all of them are sassy in the good way. It doesn't matter if you get them in the front, the back, or on the side (the bars, that is), they want you to have a good time and they'll make sure you do! Great management as well, they always make sure OCH is fresh and exciting. One tip: don't go alone. Not to put too fine a point on it, but among the throngs of genuine fun seekers, there is the very obvious smattering of bitchy, bitchy queens who come in pairs but mostly in groups and spend 90% of their time sneering and judging people they don't think conform to their standards of body mass, clothing, or how many people you have in your entourage. It's a shitty social development that hasn't always been present (especially in Austin), but these guys are popping up everywhere. Go with a group and they generally leave you alone and move onto weaker, more vulnerable prey. That aside, this is the club I met old friends from college and had a bottle of Cristal to toast to our memories. This is the club I've celebrated my birthday and caught a show with Lady Bunny. This is the club I suck down $1 mimosas on Sunday after church with my hungover friends. This is the club that's hosted CD release parties, where I've seen some of the hottest male dancers, and partied my ass off countless times. I am so thankful a place like this exists in our fabulous city of Austin. OCH is a landmark that is here to stay, and it's one of the top 50 gay bars nationally for a reason. Join in the fun!

I had a birthday gathering here a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. The venue is very small but the music was spot-on. My friends and I danced and sweated up a storm, literally. Bob reminded me of a really great basement party where the music is awesome and you're surrounded by even more awesome friends. I worked with Stan from the bar who let my friends and I in with no cover until midnight. A lot of my friends ended up paying $5 to get in, but honestly I wasn't in any state to pay attention to the time and wasn't sure if it really was before or after midnight when they got there. Drinks were moderately priced and the bartenders were friendly. I don't know if I would be so eager to come back to Bob with a $5 cover, but if I heard about a party where I could get in for free, I'd be excited to come back to Bob and dance the night away.
