I stayed here for 3 nights during the January Market. It's only about 2 blocks from Marta and 2 blocks from AmericasMart, basically the ideal location for limiting cabs. The staff is incredibly friendly and accomodating. Every request was taken care of promptly without hesitation. This included a later check out request. I also made the unfortunate mistake of leaving behind an ipod, which I discovered was missing while at the airport. The front desk staff located the item and shipped it via Fedex to my home the very next day, that's the sort of thing that makes me a lifelong customer. Ammenities: the minibar is outrageous, they have everything from top shelf liquor to gummy bears. Prices are crazy high of course. The beds are very comfortable. Desk space is very large which is great for work. The closet was also terrific, even for 2 people. The shower....Um....not so much. I shared a room with a colleague and we actually had to shower with the lights off in the bathroom so the other person wouldn't have to watch us showering through the frosted glass. (yes, you would be able to see the person clearly enough to make both people uncomforatable). I think that was a huge mistake for a "business hotel". Midtown location, sure go with the see through, hipster showers, but not downtown where everyone stays for work. BLT serves a nice meal at the usual steakhouse prices. The cocktail bar on the 2nd floor has a terrific staff and serves up some incredible drinks. The atmosphere is dark and hip, a bit like a nightclub. This was all well and good, but I didn't care of the overwhelming smell of incense burning all day long, a bit much. All in all, a very good stay.

Four years after learning about it, I finally visited Slide on a Thursday night. I was pleasantly surprised by the groovy music and the stiff but tasty drinks for the first half an hour that I was alone with my girlfriend. Then began the downSLIDE. My friend (who came all the way from Oakland) was refused entry since he was not with a girl. That was annoying but kind of understandable. We went up and got him in with us. It was still not very crowded so the bouncers agreed to let him in. An hour later, another friend (whom I had spent most of my last 4.5 years with in college and hadn't seen for three months) attempted to come in with two pretty ladies and another guy. Since he needed to park, he told the two ladies and the guy that he would meet them inside the club. Little did he know that the bouncers would put on a grand show of utter stupidity. Finally excited to enter a club to be merry with old friends after having parked 6 blocks away, the guy was refused entry! Meanwhile, I had come up to call him since the cellphone doesn't work in the club downstairs (bummer!) and the three people he was supposed to enter with were also there. All our efforts of explaining simple math to the bouncers (2 grils and one guy + 1 guy = 2 couples = no stags) failed. Instead, the bouncer told me rudely "Get in, or get out." The choice was an easy one and I let the bouncers know that they had caused Slide to lose out on a lot of money tonight just because of their stupidity. All in all, this is a good place to enjoy with your partner, but certainly not a place I would recommend if you are in a group and have plans of meeting up at the club. Hit Vessel for that!
