by Jesenia Oberdick on We sat at the bar for dinner last Friday night. I believe they had just opened a few days before. The design/ambience: slick, modern, contemporary. The drinks: We ordered the house Margaritas - not that great. They make it with orange juice and a little lime...it tasted like fruit punch. It should just be lime, no orange juice in a margarita - just tequila, Cointreau (or orange liquor of your choice) and lots of fresh squeezed lime. I could see if they had a list of different margarita's, but I believe this was the only margarita on the menu. For the second round I asked bartender if she could make it with just lime...and it was very good. The thing that impressed me about all the Margaritas was that they make sure to only salt the outside of the glass rim!! I've been to some great mexican restaurants that have no clue when it comes to salting the glass rim - way too many places put the salt on the inside as well as the outside. That's a major faux pas - any good bartender should know better. When the salt is on the inside, it winds up in your drink and makes it - salty! So they get major points for doing the salt thing right! The food: The chef is clearly well skilled! We had a feeling just by looking at the menu and we were not disappointed. We had already noshed earlier so we tried to order on the light side. The southwestern corn bisque w/ grilled prawn and smoked paprika oil was exceptional! The blue corn fried calamari and rock shrimp with a cranberry chipotle dipping sauce was very good, but they were missing a little seasoning. The grilled caesar salad was great. Also had the yucca & plantain chips with trio of salsas - exceptional! The only issue was they didn't give you enough chips in the cute paper bag. The chips were gone but we still had a lot of the 3 salsas left. They need to be a little more generous with the chips. The service: Since we sat at the bar, I can't comment on table service. The staff seemed a little scattered, but that's to be expected in a place that just opened. The 2 bartenders were nice, pleasant and accommodating. All of our dishes were brought out by a gentleman from the kitchen with a brief rundown of what he was serving. It was a nice touch. We're looking forward to going back and trying more items.
by Devon Youssef on Nice there wasn't a cover charge to get in. My first time going to a NYC night club and this is what I thought... Girls their coats. Have you heard of coat check? Unfriendly bartender. She got upset at ME because I didnt order my drink RIGHT away, so she skipped me and came back to me a couple min later Dancing? Not a lot of people danced and for the ones who WERE, let's just say, it wasn't a pretty sight.... waving your arms around like a monkey isn't attractive, ladies..... Cheap and annoying Asians trying to cut in coat check line. After we told them there was a line, they went to the couple behind us and offered them TWO dollars to help check THEIR coats in. Are you serious? TWO dollars?! Cheap asses.... I had fun, don't get me wrong. I just like my CA clubs more....
by Kemi A. on I went here with my bff last night and we arrived there at 9:45pm (trying to get in before 10pm to avoid cover) and this blonde chick at the desk downstairs told us that "actually 1month ago we decided to start charging $10 cover starting at 9pm" WOAH...first of all we were FLABBERGASTED!!! A covercharge starting AT NINE freaking PM? WTF is that about. The place was empty. Who pays a cover to enter a DEAD EMPTY club at 9pm when they can pay the same $10 to enter a crowded club at 11pm? It made NO sense!!! The whole point of arriving early and paying the consequence of seating in an empty club is to NOT pay a cover charge!!! So why would ANYONE pay $10 at 9pm to benchwarm for 2hours?????? We left and we spend the rest of the night wondering if that chick was LYING to us and just didn't want us to get in. I still need to either call the manager to get to the bottom of this because it is the MOST ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If this is the case, just say "we charge $10 NO matter what time u show up" because seriously NO ONE is gonna show up 8pm, in my opinion, to avoid paying your silly $10. As matter of fact, if I perfectly OKAY with knowing that the fee is $10 FLAT ALL Night versus trying to give a ridiculous time for people to get in for free. get your sh*t and get outta here!!! Never again! I'm soo pissed.
