Clubs just aren't my thing. I like to go to places where I can pretend I'm a mughal emperor with a thousand concubines who all look like Shirley Temple. Thus, I spend a lot of time in the library and my grandma's house. Clubs are the anti-library. They are loud, expensive, hot, brain cell killing and alienating for people like me who find most live music to be one of the world's most atrocious experiences. I don't care how many Mai Tais I've had, I can't ignore the fact that these speakers are blasting me with pulse after pulse of senseless and untuned noise. That's the kind of treatment you would expect the ghost of Henry Kissinger to receive in Chinese Heaven; but here on Earth it's simply intolerable! Circus Disco is the anti-club club. First of all, it's huge. It's like somebody owned a warehouse and started throwing parties in it. And then those parties got so big and popular, that the original owner of the warehouse had to add on more warehouses to his warehouse and each warehouse started having its own party until eventually it became some kind of warehouse party kingdom. Secondly, it's diverse. Gay nights, straight nights, fetish nights, go-go dancers. All kinds of music. For the last couple of years it has hosted one of the best breakdancing competitions in the country. A rich tapestry. Third, it's weird as fuck. Just go there, you'll know what I'm talking about. And of course, it's got a cool vibe. That's such a general statement; it could mean anything! But from security to the bartenders to the promoters to the people you meet here, no one's gonna fuck with you or fuck up your good time. And it's not just because everyone is on drugs... But, yeah, that probably is the main reason why.

Visited last Saturday for a late night drink. First off, there's very limited parking, but I showed up right on time to find a spot across the street. The place is pretty dimly lit, which adds to that romantic element if you're looking for an after date spot and the music level more than enforces that "after date, I wanna get close and talk (or not talk)" goal. On the one side, there's a really tight space with one table that could sit about 6-8ppl and a bar. I had my first drink on this side and the bartender was very helpful in picking out a new white wine (no screw off cap *wink). As soon as my date arrived we ventured upstairs where it was bit quieter....almost toooo quiet and really cold (ok, I know last week was Antarctica-like for GA, so I didn't take any stars off for that). We weren't hungry, so just drinks. I read about the hummus and I'm sorry, that was the worst, well not the worst, like one step up from the worst hummus appetizer I've ever had. We choked down a few bites but I was not impressed! Overall I would recommend this spot and if I visit for a full meal, they may wow me...
