Hmmm... It's a damned good thing  there was a couple walking ahead of me otherwise I would have had NO idea how to enter this place.  Clever. I like it. (+1 for trickery).  Upon entering, I met two friends and we were seated immediately even though we were a few minutes early for reservation (+1 for friendly hostess).  I LOVE XIV's decor - heavy tables and chairs with feminine chandeliers, sheer drapes and endless mirrors that create the illusion of windows.  The open kitchen is also an unexpected touch that made it the space seem like a big living room.  (+1 for style) Our server approached us nearly immediately and offered his suggestions, nice and friendly, no complaints so far. We decided to order from the DineLA menu and since there were 3 of us we ended up ordering all of the options as well as Oysters from the regular menu. I ordered the Caesar salad and I was pleasantly surprised, the dressing was light - lemony & peppery.  I loved it.  The Tuna Tartare and Butternut Squash soups weren't bad either but nothing to write home about. When we ordered, the waiter described the Jidori Chicken as the "moistest chicken you will ever try", unfortunately, when my friend took a bite, he said it was definitely dry.  (-1 for misleading poulet)  Shortribs friend said his entree wasn't bad either, but as I don't eat meat, I can't describe the actual flavors.  I do, however, consume seafood and I must say that the King Crab Risotto was FABULOUS (+1 for delicious indulgence).  The rice was fantastic, the sauce -sinful, the crab -juicy.  What made the dish extra special were the snap peas and the lemon foam, the intense citrus flavor coming from such a delicate foam and the crunch of the pea pods was just ...YUM.  I would definitely pay for it again.  Unfortunately, halfway through our entrees we realized that my 2nd wine pairing still had not made it to the table (-1!) and that our oysters never came (-1again!) As for desserts...I'd have to say this was the least impressive part of the meal. Two of us ordered the Root Beer Float w/ cookies.  I love RB, so normally not a problem, except it was quite evident that the floats had been siting for a while as the [normally delicious] foam created by the soda and ice cream was nothing more than a residue against the sides of our now half empty glasses. (-1for that) Cookies were mediocre.  The other friend ordered the donuts and was pleased with them. Definitely much heavier than I expected any donut hole to be. Oh yeah, Drinks! Bramble - Signature Cocktail - (+1 for yumtown) DineLA Wine Pairing - all good. I wish I could remember any of the names :( Turns out, our server didn't charge us for the oysters, but still disappointing because I actually saw him scribble it out on his order pad. Oh well.  Aside from the few mishaps, every employee was friendly and attentive (+1) That's a solid 3 stars.  Good, but not world-ending. Still.  I'd suggest giving it a shot.  Perhaps exploring their regular menu.

One of the best clubs in NYC, hands down.  It's not wonder it won best club award in 2006.  Best DJ's, great crowd, beautiful space and good drinks.  LOVE IT!
