nice lounge with good drinks. come here couple times, both on weekdays, so not many ppl here, i like the ambiance here. yet i'm not a big fan of their food, food was ok, but not a must for me.

caroline y's review inspired me to stop in and check this place out... i have passed by it several times on my way home from the train... and have been curious about it.... any place that walks away from a request for a "jagerbomb" or "kamikaze" is A-OK by me... (there are far too many pubs and sports bars in the neighborhood that support that sort of behavior) so, around 7ish last night i swing in. dark, cool vibe. tunes swank, mellow and appropriate. a first pass of the cocktail menu left me thirsty. so many decadent libations to choose from - ranging from 10-12 bucks a pop. standard for manhattan. i am thirsty for somethin brown and classic. a rye or bourbon perhaps.... i inquire with the bartender (whom i found to be quite a gentleman in fact) for a recommendation. gold rush is on his list, and was one that caught my eye. gold rush it was. i was presented with a cocktail that was deliciously made and well presented. satisfied, i ordered another round. recommendation? an old fashioned. again, pleasant and delicious. at $12 bucks a pop, i ask for my tab - seeing as the offerings were deliciously dangerous.. i could easily sit all evening and walk out spent. 'tender says, that'll be $12 bucks then.. i saaayy-wha? it's happy hour - 1/2 price drinks till nine..... well, in that case - i'll have another... and another. i mentioned sweet carolines review to my fair 'tender. told him it was her review that inspired me to stop in... we had a laugh. so... i have found my new neighborhood joint to stop in when i am feelin' thirsty on my walk home from the train. 1/2 price - high end - appropriately made - classic cocktails - absent of the kiddie drinks - in a mellow relaxed atmosphere is my kind of joint. thank you caroline. (note: if you are looking for jag, or pucker, or soco, or anything of that calibar... this joint doesn't even have it on the shelves so feel free to walk on by.)

Oh, the Cinch... a little lost treasure in the Polk, it's one of the oldest gay bars in the city. Unfortunately, the neighborhood around it is becoming more gentrified by the minute. Toto, I'm not in the Polk anymore! Is this the Marina, and what's with all the girls from Fremont? I only go every once in a while but it's always fun. Check out the hilarious "Charlie Horse" Friday drag shows even if you think you don't like drag. The crowd is mixed but often quite cute and very very friendly. This is one of those bars where you can just have a stiff drink and relax. It can be dead if you get there early, so I think it only really gets going after 11 or so on weekends. The negative reviews, I cautiously note, are mostly from presumably straight women. IT'S A GAY BAR, hello... :)
