by Dan D. on If you want to experience a Danceteria that has been around since the likes of the hottest Discos in NYC such as Studio 54, this is the place. This venue could easily fit thousands and has, come here to taste one of the West coasts last huge dance club. Come as you are or dress to impress. The crowds will range from twinks to seniors, preppy boys to leathermen, lesbians to drag queens, gym boys to Bears. Have fun!

My money is just as good as the next bitch's and I will not let a bartender make me feel bad about myself because I was not genetically programmed to be thin, tall, blonde or with a small ass. That' s my mother's job and no one can take it away from her. Not you and certainly not a bartender in a black tshirt. So, Vessel? Don't scare me. I strolled in with my 15 dollar shoes, 5 dollar tshirt and 5 dollar skirt (sales rack, you are my one true love in life), smiled at the coat check girl and ordered up a poorly made, incredibly expensive manhattan and took a look around. And of course, was ultimately dissapointed. Here's the thing - after reading all the reviews and all the g-d drama about this location, I was expecting orgies in the corner, those Japanese toilets that clean your ass after you pee, buckets full of pills, and a big giant coke spoon coming down the ceiling (in my dreams, I live in the 70s). You know, a place of excess and dark colors and sexiness and possibility. And what's here is just your standard run of the mill pricey bar with a co-ed bathroom. If you've been to Frisson, if you've been to St Regis.. you've been here. The extra star is for the high end products in the bathroom. I can't deny it - I was truly delighted to see Bumble & Bumble AND Frederic Fekkai hair products as well as Kiehl's hand lotion. And for the incredibly hot bartender who made my second, absolutely perfect mix of bitters-vermouth-maker's mark manhattan on the rocks. Yes, the one in the glasses and tats. I am predictable. (A reputable source tells me that at night this place becomes the hedonistic sexytime I want it to be, so maybe I will come back with some sucker. Maybe you? )
