The place SCREAMS class and the cocktails, yes cocktails, (don't be a jackass and order a beer here) are mixed with sophistication, confidence and a touch of cool. Remember, this is downtown not Hollywood so leave your Ed Hardy shirts at home and cover your cleavage up a bit, because nobody around here wants to see it.
by David D. on It's early Friday evening and we're on Union Square. What to do? I know! DYL Happy Hour at Vessel! Walking down Campton Place, walking down Campton Place ... where is it? rateclub it on the phone -- oh! It's behind us! That little set of poles and ropes didn't even get our attention. Where's the sign? Oh! It's in the second story window. I wonder if it lights up at night. Niiiice, they have a coat check! Walk down the stairs into the basement, pause on the landing to adjust the eyes. Oh, look! rateclubers all over the floor! It's a concrete floor, and brick walls. Lots of tables, lots of people. Apparently happy hour at Vessel is getting a lot of attention. The lighting is nice, reminds me of the Bubble Lounge ... huge DJ stand, and the DJ is playing the music LOUD! When I rent this place the DJ will have to turn it down. HAVE TO SHOUT TO EVERYONE TO SAY HI. LATER, MY VOICE IS HOARSE, I HAD TO SHOUT A LITTLE TOO MUCH! Why do Americans form lines everywhere except at the bar? At the bank or the supermarket they're all "Oh, is this the line? Sorry, I'll just go to the back." At the bar they're crowding it, trying to get the bartenders' attention, then hanging out 18 inches away, like a pack of frat boys blocking the school steps between classes. Let some more customers through, dudes! Never mind, why crowd the bar for a soda? Interesting bathroom stalls, no jacket hangers. Since I didn't check mine upstairs, the only place to hang it is ... the floor. An interesting little curtained powder room nearby where naughty, very naughty, things might happen later in the evening. Beautiful rateclubers. HI TODD! HI EVERYONE! HI, HI, HI! LOVE YOU ALL! As we leave the bar someone mentions how expensive the drinks are. Haha, I wouldn't know!
