So we showed up to see N.A.S.A. and 12th Planet do their thing and were pretty excited for our first time at The Avalon. We bought our tickets in advance and were at will call so we could get in more easily, however different bouncers were telling different people different things so the "line" (more accurately huge crowd of people on the side of the street) had people that were on the guest list, waiting for will call, and trying to buy tickets. It was a mess. Took us about an hour and twenty to get inside, at which point we had already missed N.A.S.A. The club itself was pretty cool, nice that it had different areas to hang out but you could NEVER go anywhere quiet and the outdoor patio for smoking/getting air was much too small. Overcrowded was an understatement. The people this place attracts are terrible as well. I saw more guidos picking fights with little kids than I've ever seen in my life. Surprised someone didn't get killed. Be careful out there...

Chilly night. I'd been to Triple a handful of times mostly for Wigwam parties, never on a standard night. I take a seat at the bar with 2 other patrons. Quiet evening. The bartender doesn't know me, I don't know him. He pours a stiff Kettle One Citron and soda, it should warm me up. I space for awhile, thinking of the last party here. On event nights the lights are always kept dark, setting off the chandelier. It gives an amazing party glow that shines down on all the faces. I recall dancing to industrial beats with a crowd that's always energetic and fashionable. Back to my glass I notice the barkeep topping off the inch or so with more Citron. I'm shocked, usually on a night so quiet the bars need whatever they can get, but here was this friendly gent letting me enjoy that drink just a touch longer. Back to my daydreams I glance around. There is an appeal to this bar I can't quite put my finger on. The hipster vibe at times can be overwhelming, but appreciate their tendencies to party hard and you'll cheer right up. The bartender tops me off one more time. "I owe you for that one homie, I've had basically three drinks for the price of one." He replies "No you don't, just make sure you have a good rest of your night." Uneventful, but relaxing. I did have a good night. I guess that's why I continue to return.

I really like this place, it's a cool environment, without being overly trendy, crowdy, or expensive. The music is good, esp. when The Bridge is in the house. There's dancing, and a stocked bar. The prices are not overwhelming. To be honest, I like this better than the regular Temple Bar in Santa Monica. I don't think it's all that much smaller here really. I think it can be more crowded in SM. One of the few good spots I've found to dance to hip hop without going to some lame club and listening to the Ying Yang Twins and played out stripper jams like that.
