I don't go to many clubs, this is probably the 3rd or 4th one I've ever been to. Upsides - we got in for free, outdoor smoking patio/dance floor with full bar. Downsides - techno music, I just don't get it. It seemed like a bunch of raver kids that couldn't find an ACTUAL rave to go to so they just went to Hollywood. Definitely not my scene.

It really depends on which day of the week you go to VR. I go on the Q100 Saturday Nights where mostly Asians are in the club. It used to be very good and packed, but nowadays people don't show up till past 12:30. On Thursday nights, it could be college night where it is 18 and up to party. Admission is usually twenty bucks though even before 12. I would like to see how VR is on Friday or Sunday. Good thing is parking is free and if you get hungry or bored, you could always eat some McDonalds or ordered wings and sing karaoke at Wings Korea (both in the same plaza).

I have been here...many times..fort everything from birthdays, anniversaries, concerts, and dinners...but I haven't been here in a long time.I was reminded of the significance and symbolism National restaurant has recently (especially in the NY Russian community) after seeing Anthony Bourdain visit and RAVE about it on the Travel Channel. It is one of the founding Russian restaurant/nightclubs in Brooklyn. It is a great example of the approach to celebration, dining, and decadent personality of Russian people, The entrance alone, with stairs completely plated in (Russian colored) gold with glass window doors greets you into a place not be mistaken for a regular restaurant and completely misunderstood if called a catering hall. The decor is a little Liberace meets King Midas and definitely aging in appeal in comparison to some of the other newer, more modern Russian restaurants in Brooklyn, but to severely alter it  would be undoing history. The reds, golds, woods, marble , carpeting, and opera house lighting create a magical place where the vodka, caviar, and flatware never run out and money , age, and responsibilities are not an issue. To warm the people up are a slew of singers, bands, and music: you slow or fast for you to dance to on the dance floor, or for your listening pleasure as you feast on course after course of every food group and decorate the rest of your plate with "zakuski" (appetizers) that stay on the table throughout the night. The food is delicious and probably the best on Brighton because after all they have their very own supermarket next door, M& I International Foods. Any Russian or Russian just for the night would be pleased. The main event is, as Anthony Bourdain described, "a show that if John Waters saw would turn into a Broadway show  and make it a hit". Half naked women (and men), gymnasts, dancers, singers, actors: a circus of performers come to entertain you around midnight or so for upwards of an hour or two. The music doesn't end with he show, it continues till the last party and/or person has left which could be as late as 4 or 5 in the morning. If you're ready and not scared of something different or craving a slice of Mother Russia come to National and don't forget to leave room for dessert!!
