I tend to AVOID clubs with house/trance music like a plague. Why? My raving days have LONG been over and I don't need any FOND memories of pacifiers, glow sticks, blinkys, lollipops, candy bracelets/necklaces, Vick's all over my face (my personal fav), and dancing/flooring it all night long; nor do I want to remember all the dreadful morning afters. *sigh* However, when I got a FB invite for Mardi Gras @ Ruby Skye and saw that they will be playing Hip-Hop, I knew we had to kick off our Singles Anti Valentine's Day 4-Day Party Extravaganza with this event. Other then this gawd awful hangover, I do NOT regret it one bit! COVER: Free if you're on the GL before 10:30 PM. Otherwise, it's a $20 general cover. LINES: We got there at 10 PM and a line did not form yet, so we got in within minutes. However, once 10:48 PM rolled around, my friend who was outside smoking said the line was LONG. Typically, most clubs will hold the line, so you can miss the GL and pay the cover. I think this is what happened b/c the crowds starting rolling in after 11:20 PM or so. So, if you don't want to pay cover or wait in a long ass line, come early. STAFF: The bouncers were cool and friendly. And, our bartender was HOT and efficient! ;) DRINKS: S-T-R-O-N-G; all the bartenders @ RS have a heavy-hand, so you really get your money's worth! Premium cocktails and shots like Henny and GG are about $9 each. There are 3 bars; 2 on the main level and 1 on the balcony. MUSIC: The DJ was off the hook...spinning Top 40s, Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop with some house thrown in the mix! CROWD: Visionshock and Beyond was promoting Thursday, 2/11 so it was prodominately Asians in their 20s. AMBIANCE/DECOR: RS is smaller than what the pictures depict. Aside from Infusion, I have to say it's one of the nicest clubs in SF. It's not one of those modern shee shee type of clubs, but more classically sheik; looks and feels like an Opera Theater from the Victorian Era transformed into a club. There's a huge stage and 2 large private booths above on each side. There's ample space for dancing on the main level. I loved the balcony level which is perfect for those who like to people watch. There's also a smaller dance floor near balcony bar. Since it was a Mardi Gras event, they had beautiful and ornate mask decorations throughout RS. Faux New Orleans doors with Bourbon Street signs added to the New Orleans' feel. BATHROOMS: One on the main level and one on the balcony level (3 stalls each). They were decently clean, so no complaints there. PARKING: Street parking if you're able to snag one considering it's around Nobhill/Union Square area. Otherwise, there's a parking lot across the street with a $10 flat fee. Although I had an awesome time at RS, I can't see myself becoming a regular b/c as all you former ravers know...there's no such thing as ONE last time...

First floor: Apparently this place was recently renovated & it was well worth it. The decor was relaxing & comfortable -- nothing like other Hong Kongs I've been to with cheesy dragons & paintings on the wall. The food was inexpensive - $7.50 for my plate & just under $9 for hubby's. Our dinners came almost immediately after we finished our 1st round of drinks which were not all fruity & watered down as others have mentioned. The plate was full, but not overwhelmingly so - therefore, no major food coma induced. I had a combo plate with chicken fingers, crab rangoons & fried rice. & though the fried rice could have used some onion or spice, the crab rangoons were perfect. Third floor: We met our friends for the Comedy Studio show & Hong Kong provides food & drink there as well. The crab rangoons were just as tasty & we had many scorpion bowls. I was a bit disappointed with them as they weren't as potent as I'm used to & for $15, you would think they would knock me on my ass. Anyways, all in all a good place for dinner & drinks -- though you may want to avoid the scorpion bowl.
