Tapas ONLY! So don't attempt to come here thinking you could save money by ordering small portions. The food was good but rather expensive for even a Tapas portion. I'd recommend this place after a nice dinner to grab a drink or two and dance the night away!

Oh, Green Door, how you pleasantly surprised me! Background: At first, I was a little apprehensive about this place; I had heard that they have a very strict policy and jeans and there was absolutely no picture taking allowed once inside (and I am a picture whore ...) BUT, both of those RUMORS are clearly FALSE and I had an absolutely AMAZING experience at the Green Door. Here we go! Virtual Walkthrough: Yes, the Green Door's exterior is very unassuming. As you turn down Ivar Blvd, you'll probably see two mass lines of people, one line is for the Cabana Club, the other for Green Door (yes, the two are connected, more on that later). If you are looking directly at the two lines/buildings, the Green Door will be the one on your left (if you're confused or have been pre-partying, it's the one covered in Ivy, and, you guessed it, with the GREEN DOOR!) If you are on a guestlist, approach the host and ask him which line to get in (there were two, and we got in one of them, but were immediately pulled out of it and granted entry, more on this later as well). Once you pass the velvet rope, the bouncer will take a brief (if any) look at your ID. And once you step through the Green Door, you are instantly submersed into what feels like an entirely different world and era. The overall interior is dark, and dimly lit. When you first enter, you are in the patio. I'm not quite sure if it is actually open aired, or not, because they have drapes swooping from the ceiling. There are some [small] tables, huge, oversized, and comfortable chair, a fireplace, ornate decorations (well the entire space is ornately decorated!) and you can find a (smaller) bar at the end of the narrow patio-entryway. At the beginning and end of this first room are entries into the main room. You will know it's the main room because of the huge decadent chandelier gracing the ceiling in the center, as well as the infamous green door round circle/couch directly below it. There are a few tables and chairs here and there, but the majority of this space is used for dancing. Though there is not official "dance floor" the life of the party ultimately ends up in this room. To one side of this room lies a small section [what can almost be called a library] with bookshelves, tables, chairs, and seating area (i never made it to this part). Directly behind the main room is the main bar. It's elevate a few steps [mind the steps as you keep on drinking]. The bartenders here are fantastic (more on this later) and there is ample space on the sides to sit, relax, and sip on whatever it is you're drinking. On the other side of the main room (directly across from the library thing) you'll find the hallway that leads to the restrooms and two huge doors that connect to the Cabana Club. I'm almost positive that patrons of the Green Door can go to the Cabana Club, but i'm not sure it works in the opposite direction (so check with the bouncer before doing so! - the reason we didn't go to cabana is because we asked at 1:45am if we could, and he said it was too late). Why this place blew my mind: For starters, it's one of the most beautifully decorated clubs in LA. It's not gaudy, and it's consistent the entire way through. It's elegant, sophisticated, chic, and amazing. The over-sized mis-matched chairs that surround the tables are comfortable and the space definitely establishes an awesome mood and vibe. Now, when you need a drink, head to the main bar and find Crystal the bartender. Hands down probably the best bartender i've found in this city! She's extremely efficient, polite, and remembers you the entire night. And, the best part is, she knows how to make a wicked strong drink. She doesn't skimp on her alcohol and each time I went back to her, my drinks were overflowing (yes, overflowing) with alcohol. Not only that, drinks here are [relatively] cheaper than other hollywood hotspots. 3 TOP SHELF drinks (that were incredibly strong) ran $36, not bad @ $12/drink that were twice as strong as some i've had at other places (ahem, coco). The DJ was one of the best i've heard, mixing it up and providing perfect dance beats for the crowd. And, the door isn't that tough if you're polite, and dressed for the occasion (ie: upscale, like the interior) ----------------- Bottom Line: Check this place out. It's unlike any other club in Hollywood. With amazing decor, great music, and amazing space, and generous bartenders, why are you waiting? Some pointers: park across the street at the arclight parking lot - flat rate $10, and you don't have to wait for your car. Dress to impress - this place isn't like other hollywood clubs - guys - nice shoes and jacket is preferred. Ladies, dresses is the way to go here. Hope you enjoy the green door like i did!
