by Michael T. on There's no denying it: I like to go out, drink and have a good time. However, as I get older I appreciate the ability to do this in a low key manner. That said: It doesn't get any better than Martuni's! The atmosphere is low-key without being lethargy-inducing. The dim ambience is intimate and cozy and if you manage to find a seat, it is incredibly comfortable. The piano players and singers are usually very good (no "Sweet Home Alabama" types) and it is generally quiet enough to still engage in a conversation with your friends. You can order drinks from your table from a waiter who is most likely to be amiable and courteous. The drinks are amazing, for real. They have something for every palette. My friend was not big on flavored drinks, but she was pleasantly surprised by the bourbon selection - from mid to high range and decently priced. I have never ordered a "regular" cocktail there, but they offer them. It's hard to pick a regular cocktail when the Martuni's are so interesting and amazing tasting. The drinks range from about $5-$10 but are large enough and strong enough to appease even the most "thirsty" of patrons. All in all, a wonderful place to take your friends and co-workers.
by Heather N. on This has been our Sunday night staple for a long time (since most places are closed, dangit), and somehow never thought to write about it, because figured everyone already knew about it. BUT, they change the menu seasonally, so it becomes a new place! AND they added a sunday night special where you can get a pizza or a pasta and a wine or beer for $15. Can't beat it. I really miss the shrimp pasta they took off the menu, but the chicken pancetta was delicious. Mr. Joi got a pork shoulder pasta that was perfection, light tomato sauce and tender meat. MMMMMM!! The butternut squash flan was wonderful, but didn't really taste like anything but cream. Our waiter was stellar, from his descriptions to the wine pairing to timing and personality. I love it because you can go when you feel fancy or cas., and we even bring our kid. She happens to be extraordinarily well behaved in restaurants, thank god! AND IT BLOWS SOTTO SOTTO out of the water. So there...
by Mark on If you are in Canton, you are obviously lost. Might as well have a cold one with the good old boys at ZZ Tap. The proprietor is Zeke Z., although there is no tap. Beer in cans and bottles only, but really cold. Can't go wrong at $1.25 a can. The Sunday afternoon crowd was sparse but friendly. Don't think the ever laid eyes before on anyone from outside the county line.
