What a great Austin find. Food and service were just outstanding. The Ruben is by far the signature dish here. One of the best Rubens I've had outside of NYC. I'm told the burgers are excellent as well so we will have to try that next time around. The Mongolian pork lettuce wraps were a great starter. We went for lunch.

I came here last night and, to say the least, I am floored by my experience. There were 3 people in our group including myself: 2 straight girls, 1 gay guy. We had read the Rateclub reviews about this place and were totally into the idea of starting the night out with a drag show. Who isn't, right? Anyways, this whole experience turned so sour we didn't even make it through the front doors. We arrived around 10:30 pm, our IDs out and ready to go. As we approach the door the female bouncer feels it necessary to announce to us that this is a "gay bar." Ummm duh, we knew this already. So she checks my gay friend's ID and it's fine. Then she looks at me and my straight friend and says "you know, this is a very aggressive, punk, gay bar." Aggressive, punk, gay bar? Are you kidding me? There was nothing threatening about this place. I was kind of taken aback and then she proceeds to stare my friend and I up and down and makes some sort of comment about how girls like us should not go into this bar... At this point I am SO confused. THEN she has the audacity to say something about how white, straight women carry an elitist attitude and basically can't be welcomed into the bar. UNREAL. I was born and raised in San Francisco and am one of the most open minded people ever, so this was actually incredibly offensive. So, thank-you Ms. Bouncer for discriminating against us. Bottom line: don't come here if you're a straight girl, especially if that same bouncer is working.

I ADORE Cielo! I was so surprised to find this in the Meat Packing District because it's a smaller/intimate space out of place amongst the larger clubs that seem to be taking over. Cielo has 1 lowered dance floor with a comfortable seating area surrounding it... great patio area outside to enjoy some smokes and cokes (the drink, hi mom!). I especially loved it because they played HOUSE MUSIC... not the trance or electronica (I just can't get into it...) but the deep/soulful kind that I am used to in San Francisco. Service is great and people were very friendly... just into the music and having a good time.
