by Warren Laher on It's been many many years since I've been to the Varsity, but I didn't have rateclubs then either... I appreciate the history and tradition behind this place, the fact that it has lasted through the years and is still a well known spot in the city. However.... ew. I wasn't impressed when I was a kid, wasn't impressed when I was 18-ish, and would never consider stopping here again if I were in Atlanta. I guess one of the main draws to this place is the fact that you can get chili slopped on just about anything, but me personally I just like a plain hamburger. Ketchup and mustard only. So seeing as I only got meat and bread, I was actually able to taste what was not great quality food. If I"m gonna eat fast food hamburgers, I would go to Wendy's or Burger King over the Varsity, no question. Fries are unremarkable. Actually, what is remarkable is that I have such vivid memories of this oh-so-gross meal more than 10 years later. Just about the only recommendation I can make is to go, get a milkshake, and enjoy the bustling atmosphere, the hard-working burger flippers, the "what'll ya haves," and then leave and eat someplace else.
by Trent Kriss on I will never go back to Esso's ever since I seen a girl get choked up by a guy there. I don't know what she said but it wasn't right at all. Another night that I went, I was at the bar trying to get a drink and a guy was posted up by the bar and I said, "Excuse me" and he looked me up and down and wouldn't move. I thought he was joking, then realized he must have been on the roll (pill) or something cause he looked zooted. So I repeated myself, "Excuse me" and he said "bitch, go to the other side!" That's when I said it was time to go. I told some of my buddies who were here in town one weekend to go to Esso at their own risk (they are prep/pretty boys). They went and left within an hour of being there. They said a guy slapped a chick and then the crowd started throwing drinks on the guy. They left cause their shirts got all messed up from the liquor being thrown. Although they shouldn't have been in the way (is what I told them!), it was clear to me that Esso was rude and Ghet-to and not my cup of tea. I'll stick with Dreamz or the Velvet Room. Ladies are free before 11PM, so hurry to get your *ss kicked by some looser who is probably on the down-low or is high on PCP!
by Kan B. on Ten pin alley is great. You get waiter service at your lane (finger foods mostly - pizza, fries). They have decent drinks. The lanes are expensive $80/ per hour and there's a max of 6 people per lane so it's great to go with other people or 3 couples. It's the nicest bowling alley we've got in Atlanta. It's not for everyday bowling but for nice occasions or if you want to impress your date. You do have to pay your tab separately. One at the lane, for your food and drinks. and then at the conceirge for the lane plus it also gives you a chance to retreive your shoes (they keep them so you don't leave with thier shoes I guess) . The $80 rate includes shoes rentals so I guess that counts for something. I think they weekday rates are about $6 per person per game.
