"There are some things that never go down in a recession, like drugs and alcohol, so we're doing ok" is what the bartender told me when I asked about business at the KF last night. While the front bar served up $2 PBR's and $7 Jameson's the music in the back room was the main attraction. Daptone Record's CMJ showcase was amazing and the sound was great. I miss the location and character of the old Manhattan KF but alas, things change. Only complaint would be that there's a unisex bathroom with only 3 stalls for the entire venue. This could lead to anarchy in the future but for now, drink and drug on concertgoers. P.S. Fette Sau across the street is a bomb spot for pre-dancing BBQ, just don't eat too much of that spicy mustard.

I'm amazed that for how into music I am , I've only been to one show here. The venue is laid out like a place where the original Rat Pack took their ladies to knock back shots and blow. Pinback comes here twice a year if I'm not mistaken. If you have the option to see a band here if they are doing multiple venue stops in SF, make sure you come here!!! It's a far step UP from other SF live music venues.

Aside from the cool concept, it's a pretty run-of-the-mill LA club, though it's definitely not as skeezy as other places in the same neighborhood are. We arrived at midnight and were able to bypass the sizeable line at the door thanks to my friend's promoter connection, and I was surprised to find the place wasn't that packed given the amount of people waiting outside. It really filled up and started getting going closer to 1. Ecco is essentially set up like a giant square with the dancefloor in the middle, clearly delineated by the LED lights which are a nice touch, with booths and seating around the perimeter. The DJ spins Top 40 and the usual hip-hop until around 1:30 or so when it seems to switch to almost exclusively trance and electro which is fun if extremely intoxicated but is annoying if that isn't your thing.
