Cool sibling of Mandarin Oriental's Lobby Bar, this lounge is more playful with younger crowd and flirtatious vibe (yummy waitresses too) - i.e., perfect drinks spot for the 1st date Arrive around sunset, get yourself a table with couches to the right from entrance, let her order what she wants ($15-40/glass), tell her she looks stunning in this light, and a 2nd date is guaranteed

I'm surprised XIV only has an average of only 3.5 stars...c'mon people!! I've been here over a dozen times since they opened -- I LOVE Michael Mina. The overall vibe here is trendy as opposed to the fine dining ambiance you would get at most of his other establishments, but hey, this is an SBE restaurant. Still, the food is playful, inventive, and DELICIOUS!! Must haves: Scallops Hamachi sashimi with pickled strawberries Beet salad Jidori chicken salad Tapioca-crusted snapper Asparagus risotto White peaches for dessert The one and only dish I've semi-regretted ordering (and I think I've had just about everything on their menu) is their lobster pot pie. Not because it wasn't good, but at $60, it was not as good as ordering 3 more appetizers. Piggies beware: This place has very small portions.

After reading all the negative reviews on Trigger, I thought I'd add a note of support. It's probably the best in the area (better than the renovated Cafe) Consistently Good: - Good lighting, so you can see who's talking to you - Good music, so you can enjoy your time - No long waits at the bar - Quick bathroom access Hit and miss: - Go go dancers -- sometimes hot, but sometimes overweight and shouldn't be on a box; often times the same recurring dancers (look, the key to keeping patrons interested is keeping things new, you can't put the same guys/girls up weeks on end -- people notice) - Crowd control -- sometimes it gets a bit out of control and too packed - The smoke wafting into the room -- it's 2009 -- stop smoking and keep the smoke out of the main room - Sound level -- generally stays within a range where you can hold a conversation, but sometimes gets way too loud The most common complaint about Trigger is its cover. If you really want, go early and avoid the cover. But SF needs to up its game and be willing to pay just like patrons in other cities like LA, NY and London do.
