It was my first time in, but I'm always walking past it and was curious, so I figured we would come by for after dinner drinks and good jazz. I was not dissapointed. The best thing about the place (besides the music, of course) is the staff. Everyone from the woman at the door, to the manager, to the waiters, bartenders..whoever...were all so incredibly hospitable. Even the musicians were! I didn't eat, but my friend and I both had drinks and they were very good. I also had some issues with my credit card when I was trying to pay, and they were incredibly understanding. My only regret with this place is that I've lived in the area for over a year and I am just now going. I will be coming back...hopefully often!
by Errol Dashne on I must confess, I have spent more time in Avalon than any other club. I used to come here at least once, if not four, times per month. (I would honestly dance every single night for the rest of my life if I could.) I never had a problem with anybody bothering me. It was always packed, with the majority of the crowd so into the music, which I LOVE to see. I have stayed quite a few times way into the night, leaving at 7 am...I do not know how I used to do it, but it was amazing. I always found some cool new friends, and rarely got myself into trouble.
by Christine R. on This venue is wonderful! I love the layout and basement feel it has. There's plenty of room to explore and most importantly dance!!!!! I've only been here a handful of times but each time has been a great experience. The bartenders are quick too. Which is a rarity in it's own at clubs especially in NYC these days. The DJ booth is set up in a great spot too. Just slightly overlooking the crowd with PLENTY of room for your friends. Not sure if this is typical but there's an alley way that people use to smoke in with stairs and seems to be a great gathering place to get social with strangers. I don't smoke but my friends do so it was a nice escape for me to get some "fresh" ice cold NYC winter air. Ha. I would definitely recommend anyone to this venue. The music has always been on point each time I've been and the crowd is not that of a sleazy typical NYC big time club/lounge. Yah for SR!
