by Winston Louge on I went here when it first opened and haven't been back. I remember the ambiance and service was spot on, the thing I wasn't satisfied was the burger. When I went I ordered a Santa Fe Burger, which consisted of queso sauce, pickled jalapeños, and blue corn chips, I also got the sweet potato fries. The burger was very very very salty, it was like I was drinking salt water or something, I asked my friends that came along if their's were salty and they said it was. I did try my friends burger, she got the LA Burger, it was a little better but I would say it was because the guacamole in the burger that masked the saltiness. The one thing that I did enjoy was the sweet potato fries with the honey mustard horseradish sauce. They were very tasty. Overall I was real excited to hear that Bobby Flay was opening up a burger joint in Philadelphia and went in with high expectations and the place really disappointed me. I don't think I will ever go back which is sad to say.
by Corey Orsi on Fun, beautiful and my god, I want to steal one of those gold skulls planted in the walls. Our group of five walked right in without a wait or guest list but it was the night after Thanksgiving so the door may be much more difficult normally. Once inside they attempted to enforce a required coat check which we somehow shrugged off and went in to explore. While it was pretty empty the crowd was fun, beautiful and dancing their butts off to the same music that's playing everywhere. I tried to pry a skull off the wall but those things are nice and tight in there. We joined the crowd for a bit but ultimately folks got antsy and we bounced. Since my trip seemed a bit atypical, I can't wait to check out the scene on a normal evening now that Southside has worn out its allure.
by Victoria D. on This girl loves to dress up. So with a flower in my hair and a playful dress reminiscent of days gone by, off I went with my handsome partner in crime. Once we recalibrated the seating at our little bistro table, we settled in. Ordered some pretty cocktails and tried to work out which local morsels we would partake it. Service was utterly charming although a little slow at first. I forgive you lovely ladies and gents in your smashing outfits, I really do. Our food was excellent, and how wonderful to be eating such a locally sourced array of yummies. Rather than an edible dessert, we opted for a fruity flirty little concoction that was perfect for an after dinner tipple. I'm looking forward to a repeat visit and I hope ESSR can maintain what appears to be a charming, eclectic, creative space and menu.
