by Margaret C. on Meh, I've experienced better. With Mexican food it's pretty hard to beat in terms of great food for value. You can go to a hole-in-a-wall place and get the most delicious taco ever. So for a place like Velvet Margarita to win them over the atmosphere and drinks would have to be top notch. Upon reading the reviews I expected some lavish decor but instead I thought the inside was tacky. Dark aquamarine velvet? Blue monochrome paintings of famous characters? Waiters with pop up collars? I did however appreciate their musical playlist and it wasn't too loud or overbearing that you can't have a conversation. Expect to pay $17 dinner and $10-15 drinks for dinner. The food was too salty for my taste. The service was good and but I wouldn't come back here for dinner. This place is much better for just drinking. Pros: - $10 drinks can buy you a stiff one - good service Cons: - pricey for Mexican food - tacky decor - parking is difficult (valet -don't know how much) or $10 public parking lots)
by Rudolph Stohler on My Mom and Dad used to talk about Bimbo's when it was located at 365 Market Street and was one of San Francisco's swankest nightclubs. As progress turned Market Street into a shady replica of Cairo's garbage laden boulevards, Bimbo's moved across town close to Fisherman's Wharf, an unlikely spot for a nightclub. My first visit to this location of Bimbo's was in 1978 at a Christmas party for staff and guests of another popular club of that time, The Palm on Polk Street, That party featured Sylvester who was at the peak of his career and disco was queen, or king if you insist. I've seen all sorts of acts there including San Francisco's own Bud e Luv, Spencer Day and some amazing local and touring rock groups. It also specializes in private party's and events and they still have the girl in the fishbowl for those with a memory. A truly beautiful nightclub, well worth the cover and drink prices.
by Jess Reik on heheh...we made it by this place for their 2 yr anniversary. 2 yr anniversary meant open bar from 9-midnight. how can i not give a bar 5 stars that fed my liver alcohol for 3 hours for free??? this lounge def had a cool vibe. super friendly bar tenders. the dj was spinnin some fun tunes...and the crowd was hip and fun to watch. two thumbs up...
