bad, real bad. so bad I felt compelled to sign up here on rateclubs just to vent my frustration. I had no idea what to expect, but I assumed when my friend invited me for his birthday and told me I'd be on the list I wouldn't have any problems getting in.  - just like every other top club I've been to. - wrong I arrived at a reasonable time, around 10:30. But already they were turning away people and were only letting groups of girls in and select couples who had connections. Being on the list meant absolutely nothing, even when standing at the front of the line - nobody was checking it. Even reasonably-attractive girls weren't having any luck getting in on their own. - and apparently it wasn't even crowded. By 11pm it essentially became "table service only", unless you knew one of the half dozen douche promoter/doorguys lingering around the front door on their blackberrys who were getting the people on their list in. yes, they can act as cool as they want to be, but in reality, how cool are they really if they have to work on a Friday night? The crowd wasn't very high calibre at all anyhow, just typical hollywood wannabe's with ego's. Twice i tried asked the doorgirl about being on my friends birthday list,  and each time she deflected her attention elsewhere. After waiting a half hour at the front of the line, one of the guys at the door came down and asked me to step aside in order to let thru some other dudes in who had recently arrived and knew the guy. At which point I bascially concluded that getting in was never going to happen and being on the list meant nothing. so I replied "sorry due, I've been standing here awhile..and I'm not moving.".  guess I hurt his feelings because he then turned to the doorgirl and repeated twice to her "don't let this guy in" which actually was a relief to hear,  because I had had enough of it and had better places to attend on my itinerary.  - I just wanted to drop by my friends birthday party and check the place out for a bit and was growing sick of the situation. So to sum up my experience, arrive the moment it opens and you might be able to get in if you're on someone's list. otherwise you better be in a group of girls (no guys), or know the C# of one of the promoters or you're just gambling on wasting your time trying to get in. I understand the velvet rope scenario all so well and know how it goes, but if I'm on someone's list, I'm dressed accordingly, I arrive early and I wait patiently until I get to the front of the line, I expect to get in and not be dicked around- and at least get acknowledged by a doorperson who's handling the guests list. perhaps it was because they were doing a private party for an owner in the upstairs room the same night that they weren't letting many people in the downstairs area and I just went on a bad night. But I have absolutely no desire to go near that place again and I highly recommend avoiding at all costs unless you're 100% you can get in.

Okay, okay.  I know I shouldn't complain because this is the city's first LEED-certified "green" nightclub, or something like that, but honestly -- the layout of Greenhouse is terrible.  The bars are shoved in the corners, and there are all sorts of wacky poles and pillars and stairs that make it difficult to get from the first floor to the second floor or heck, from one end of the club to the other. I suppose that may have been beyond anyone's control, though, since real estate in the city is a shark pit and you probably can't make any space LEED-certified because of how buildings are constructed. Decoration: there are some leaves and moss on the ceiling and such, as well as all sorts of strange glass ceiling hangings.  The whole layout reminds me a bit of Le Royale in the West Village, actually.  Except with leaves. Three stars instead of two for the sustainability factor, as well as the fact that it's great to have a "green" nightclub in such close proximity to a subway station.  Maybe people will actually take the train home.

We saw Jamie Cullum play here last year and the venue suited his sound perfectly.  It was just fantastic.  A great atmosphere- better to stand at the front rather than be seated at the back.
