i have great and not so great things to say about this place. 1) atmosphere is a little overdone, but fun. not really a place to chat and sip on margaritas, shouting over beers is more like it. 2) food : they tend to overcomplicate, but food quality is good as well as presentation. overall food gets a 6 or 7. Though i wasn't over impressed by food or atmosphere, the service was awesome. very approachable, helpful and also unobtrusive. Go once, make your own decision, but i don't think i'll be back soon.

This club sure got it right. The decor, atmosphere, layout, music, service... I was really impressed. I think we all have these expectations of Hollywood clubs that 1. lines are too long, 2. drinks are too expensive, 3. too crowded, 4. bad music, the list goes on. We basically have to accept this reality and then figure out whether or not a particular club has gone above and beyond in order to keep us coming back. For me, the colony is definitely a club I'll be coming back to. First of all the atmosphere is awesome. The lighting is just right and it's got a very nice, classy feel to it. You know how sometimes you think to yourself "WOW, I really don't want to see what this place looks like with all the lights turned on..." well, the colony isn't one of those places (at least not yet). The floors are actually hardwood, like planks on a ship :) Also, I read another review and felt a little scared b/c I thought my heels would fall into the cracks of the wood, but nothing like that happened. Another thing I love about this club is that there are a lot of areas to set your drinks down, even SIT down!! There aren't bouncers walking around telling you to move every 2 seconds, which I really appreciated. In fact, no one told me or my friends to move EVER. There was quite a lot of drink spillage by drunk girls though... somewhat annoying but forgivable given how great of a time I was having. Another thing I really liked was the DJ. I think around midnight, he started moving into silly mainstream stuff, but if you come before that and get there (heaven forbid) early, the music is actually pretty good! I wanted to go up and compliment him for not playing top 40 for a change. Note for the guys (you'll like this): I've never seen more slutty girls anywhere in my life. I don't mean to offend anyone at all, hey, if you're having a good time - more power to you! YOU GO SISTER!!! haha. But really, if you are looking for an easy, willing pretty girl, this is probably the club to come to. I felt like every girl was making out with someone! Hm... maybe its the guys who are "slutty"? ;) heehee. Anyways, from conversations overheard and the level of sloppiness I was able to gage, I would have to say that the girls here are definitely a higher on the sluttiness level. rateclubs should have that as a filter feature huh? that would be hilarious. Anyways, this place is awesome. The service is actually really good too (esp from the male bartenders). AND (while our group did not have to pay for drinks that night), I hear the drink prices weren't TOOO scary, $12 for mixed drink and $7 for beers? Not bad IMO. BUT they do have a lame $25 min for credit cards so. yah. Again, you gotta put all those expectations of Hollywood on the table, and then move on from that. Otherwise, you're never going to have a good time. Come to the colony though and you'll probably have a good time AND maybe even see a celebrity or two!! (from all the paparazzi standing outside, i'm guessing there were some ppl i missed... darn!)

Who still offers unlimited mimosas in this economy? Mamajuana! What brought me to Mamajuana was none other than my own gluttony. I hear all you can eat brunch with all you can chug mimosas, and I get weak in the knees. The mimosas were good, but the brunch fare is where it's at. Incredible! Here are my best, sober, recollections from that meal: - Pan-fried House Potatoes spruced up with carrots, onions, and red peppers. It was the perfect pairing for the bacon, sausage, and omelet's. - Mangu: mashed plantains. This was good. Next time I'll have to pair this up with the proper side, steak, roasted chicken, bacon, etc... - Bacon: the bacon was crispy and available at all times. - Sausage: it was Good! Filling and tasty; perfect breakfast meat. - Steak: I expected lean & dry steaks. And, was surprised with tender and flavorful steaks. A bite of the steak, a bit of the omelet.., paired soo well together (steak & eggs). FYI, if you love meat, you can turn this into an AYCE Steak meal ( & AYCD ) for $18. - Eggs Benedict: Unsung superstar of all the brunch items. They bring out a fresh piping-hot tray of Eggs Benedict, and the whole lot disappears in less than a minute. I managed to grab one with my swift claws (I neglected a few grandmas in line, but whatevs..). This was my first (ever) Eggs Benedict. It was very good. - Roasted Chicken: ...for breakfast?, roasted chicken? I love chicken, and I'm hungry.., I'm not complaining. The chicken drumsticks were incredible, fall-off-the bone tender with great sauce in accompaniment. I went back for a few drumsticks. - Fresh Fruit Salad: I like watermelon. It was a smorgasbord fruit salad, and I only picked out the ripest pieces of watermelon for my dessert plate. Yeah, I'm a bastid. It was refreshing though, sweet and refreshing. And?.., I'll do it again next time! My favorite item on their brunch is the Omelet (station). I love breakfast food, and I love eggs. The made-to-order omelet's here are great. I ordered one with chorizo, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and mozzarella. Then I promptly returned for another omelet (asparagus, mushrooms, chorizo, tomatoes). The omelet's here are good, and they pair well with the other buffet offerings. I enjoyed my omelet with a side of house potatoes, bacon, maple syrup-drizzled sausage, and steak. There were other items that I didn't get the chance to try. There was French Toast (which one of my party members complimented), pancakes, rice, beans, croissants, muffins, and fresh fruit.
