by Stuart Fiero on Amazing martinis, CHECK! Lively clientele, CHECK! Wonderful bartenders, CHECK! (Plus one super-server, Skip!) Star-quality singers, CHECK! You can't go wrong with a trip to Martuni's! It's got something for everyone. If you love delicious, large and cheap martinis or a draft beer; they have something for you. If you want to watch a local star belt out show tunes and karaoke classics or have a quiet drink with friends; they've got the front and back rooms to accommodate all needs. Love, love, love MARTUNI'S!!!
by Colby Uballe on VENUE: Much larger than what the outside leads you to expect. The tables for bottle service are also well placed meaning if you're having table service you don't have a bunch of people bumping into your table. Someone had mentioned in earlier reviews that the decor is early 80s disco, which is exactly how I'd describe it. The smoking patio consists of a walkway and a handicap ramp down to that walkway. Crowded, smokey, music was at a tolerable level. STAFF: The door people are like typical door people. Didn't have much interaction with other staff members but the bartenders don't ignore you. What I thought was stupid was that every time someone ordered a bottle of anything they brought it out with those sparkling-flare things which I think is tacky unless it's you're b-day. Also they didn't have a shit-fit if you sat down at the tables when you didn't reserve the table but with the economy in the gutter that's pretty much standard anywhere now. MUSIC: Ok, way to loud. If you've been the Vanguard you know that trance/house/whatever music can get really really really loud. This place was louder in a smaller space. I don't know who decided and who wrote in what Hollywood-handbook that we can encourage people to drink by limiting their ability to speak with each other. On the plus side they were not exclusively selecting top-40 songs so I didn't hear anything about Lady GaGa's poker face or whether or not the Black Eyed Peas were having a great night. The mix varied from older rap and hip-hop (think California Love) to house and anything in between. Pretty good DJ, knew what he was doing. CROWD: Diverse crowd. Everyone was here from the Ed Hardy d-bags to the Los Silver Park hipsters, and a sprinkling of "normal" people. This actually took me by surprise. Ecco get's a 2 because it doesn't do anything differently than the other clubs. There's nothing terrible about this place but nothing stellar either. Maybe if you're a newly minted 21 year old you'll like this place but if you've done the clubbing thing in H-Wood you aren't missing much.
by erica u. on What a crock of shit this place is. Our complacent waitress serves us the wrong (and considerably more expensive) bottle of champagne, then charges us the higher price rather than admitting to it. The twink hostesses make a point of telling me i cannot come in with flip flops, (which i had brought heels from work to change into), then 15 minutes later there are two heffers at the bar with flip flops on. i had forgotten how craptacular this place was, don't waste your time! this places smells like "douche"
