For those of us who worship posh clubs in MP an Chelsea, midtown and uptown are god forsaken places, so I would take a liberty at suggesting that Nikki is not the BEST choice, but it is the ONLY choice if you find yourself above 30th street and in a mood for something splashy and fun. I come here monthly either for when I need to entertain clients who are a bit older but still like to party or when I am with friends who don't look/dress like models: + great wine list and one of the best dirty martinis in town + awesome food (only go for fish dishes: firecracker shrimp and ceviche, sushi are solid, tuna tartar is the best... don't order their skewers or meat entries, too dry and not good quality meat) + great music mix (80s, 90s, house, hip-hop) + lots of dancing options: VIP space, lots of room near tables, on a floor, on a catwalk + nice clientèle (well dressed B&T but some older folks in the mix, almost feels like Southern Europe but with a scent of local dushes) + can always get in if you come early enough (this Fri, we came around 11pm) Two big minuses - they have an absolutely horrible violin player who once in a while gets on a podium and starts playing some awful music so loud that I usually use that time for a bathroom break. Maybe this seem like a novelty for out-of-towners, but for us locals who know what is in season at Carnegie and AFH, it is quite annoying/embarrassing - they let guys who a) don't know how to dance, b) don't look good on a catwalk... which defeats the whole purpose for sensible men to come here to buy bottles and look at young things doing naughty moves high up. They need to have a bouncer who explains catwalk etiquette to those B&T morons and pulls them down
by kim p. on i wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if my boyfriend didn't go with me. the dudes seemed generally creepy in that they seemed lik the typical greasy-haired, snake skin shoed, slightly unattractive, atlanta metro clubbers. but the music was great to dance to. except they played the same sort of tunes for every song. there was a live band. party starts around midnight so we danced and the bar was crowded. i actually had a great time...but only because of the people i went with. nuf said
by Crista Flecha on I've never been to Duvet to eat, but it is THE place to be for the gorgeous gay men of New York City on a Thursday night. The party's called Distortion Disko and it is packed to the gills with beautiful people all night long. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the inconsistency of the music. Sometimes it's amazing and fun, and other times it's weird, undanceable house. But since the death of Poprocks (tear), it's where the boys are on a Thursday.
