I went to King King for the Mortified show ( http://www.getmortifie...) and was really happy to be in that type of space again. It's not often since I moved to Cali that I get to hang out inside of a cavernous warehouse space and enjoy great drinks and a good sound system. Maybe I'm not searching hard enough, but I found that was more of a typical thing to do when I was living in NYC and Brooklyn. I like the communal vibe of packing people into a space with such high ceilings and low lighting. The sound of everyone talking at once disperses nicely. My friends had been here before to dance to House music, of which I am not really a fan. I love dancing, but not to House music so much. Maybe here it would be better, but don't quote me on that. My only complaint about this place for a show - like the one I saw when I was there - is there weren't enough chairs proportional to tickets sold. The response I got from the organizers to this request for more chairs was "Sorry, gotta get here early. It's tough." What does that mean, buddy? Since you didn't plan for me, even though I paid the same ticket price everyone else did, you just think I should have to stand the entire performance? What other theater production, comedy show, reading, etc. would get away with this? No idea. But it doesn't equal good event planning. I would understand if all of the space had been taken up by chairs and there just wasn't enough available room (this has totally happened to me before since I am also an event planner), but there was actually a lot of room in back that was filled with people standing around with drinks. They could have easily planned for more folding chairs. OK, I'm done.
